You may be asking yourself Dabba-what? The name Dabbawalla is an Indian word, which describes a deliveryman who carries lunch boxes to office workers.  Susan Givens, co-creator of Dabbawalla along with Carol Mack, was inspired by the dabbawallas she saw delivering lunches during her travels in India.

When Susan and Carol became frustrated with the lack of appropriately sized bags for children, they created Dabbawalla – a line of simple, colorful bags just right for pre-school and early-elementary school children.  They are made from innovative eco-sponge fabric, which is completely machine washable, stain resistant, and insulates to help retain food temperature.  This new line of modern backpacks and lunch bags has brought a second meaning to the word Dabbawalla; now, this fun word can also be associated with “a stylish, practical bag for little people on the go”.

Here at Julabug, we love supporting companies whose employees earn fair wages in safe working conditions.  Dabbawalla bags are sewn in Taiwan by a woman-owned and operated facility that supports fair labor practices.
